First major stop on day 2 was at Snake Gully (Dog on the Tucker
Box). Then it was off the main highway for a drive through the
mountains to Cowra to see the remains of the only POW breakout
on Australian soil. We also visited the Australian / Japanese war
graves here before proceeding to our overnight stop at
Parkes.
The Gundagai River Caravan Park, one of the better
caravan parks we stayed at as far as the soft ground and
laid back nature of the park. Would we stay there again? You
bet!
|
On day 2 we already had packing down to a fine art. We
had even worked out one of the tables had to go on top of
the tarp to stop it from billowing and destroying
itself.
|
Bouf even had a bit of a sit.
|
A few hours later on and we were at Cowra, the site of
the P.O.W. breakout. While we were there a coach load pulled
up. But they were sorry.
|
Rachael, Kieran, Andrew and Ambre have a look at some of
the information at the cemetery.
|
Parkes O'Nite Caravan Park. It wasn't bad here. The pool
was a bonus even if it wasn't that warm.
|
Campers facilities were pretty good. Well lit, good
cooking facilities, plenty of tables and chairs. We had two
sites but it was still way too small. In hindsight, we were
spoiled at Gundagai.
|
I don't know what Ambre was smiling about. She obviously
didn't know what the boys had in mind.
|
Who us, plan something against the rules? Never. Well
hardly ever.
|
Its not against the rules to drown Ambres is it. This one
certainly looks as though it might need drowning. Ambres
squeal lots when you try and drown them don't
they.
