Jackie MacKenzie presents Ambre with her Bronze Duke of
Edinburgh's Award
|
It was Ambre's 16th Birthday on her Leadership Course and
of course the intrepid leader happened to be there with a
cake (or two).
|
Now Ambre, which one would you consider to be the
closest!
|
Like all good courses, there is a presentation
ceremony.
|
Ambre and her fellow participants talk it over during the
closing parade.

The compulsory group photo.

For her 'Expeditions 1', Ambre was extremely keen on
canoeing the Campaspe River from a spot near Goornong (north
east of Bendigo) to Elmore - a distance of 31 km.
Unfortunately no-one that we know of has ever traversed the
Campaspe over this area, so a lot of homework was required
by Ambre to:
1. Find out if the trip was actually possible and
2. Prove to the examiners (Hi Harry and Mick) that the
water was of a grade suitable for an expedition.
These photos were taken during the 2002 Easter break as
Ambre worked to ensure her expedition could go ahead.
|
The early designated starting point at Barnadown and
Ambre surveys they scene. Later on it was found the river a
small way downstream was impassable so changes were
required.
|
A bit further down river is "Rocky
Crossing".
|
This looks like the place for an overnight stop -
Avonmore Bridge.
|
Here's Ambre and our resident drag-along Scout (the
problems associated with being a leader's daughter), Kristy
about to start a thorough look at the river near Avonmore
Bridge.
|
Well, what do you know. There are parts of the Campaspe
which are quite wide and a pleasure to canoe
on.
|
In 2003, Ambre was awarded the District's 'Bruce Proud
Award' for Achievement and Citizenship as a Venturer.
Chris Bull (a previous recipient) presents Ambre with the
award.
